[local news] We, The Undersigned Embark on Cross-Canada Tour

11/08/2009

wtu tour

As one of the leading bands in Fredericton’s ever growing metal scene, We, The Undersigned have made a name for themselves not only as talented musicians but as a prime example of hard work and dedication really paying off. Though in part due to the invaluable support of other bands, local labels and organizations such as Diminished Fifth Records as well as the emergence of The Capital’s Metal Monday’s, We, The Undersigned and their equally talented colleagues have brought rise to a much more solidified metal community in Fredericton than there was before – despite the city’s indie majority.

Evidence of this community was painfully obvious on the night of Monday, October 12th. Supported by an all-star lineup of Canada’s best head bangers including Ninjaspy, What’s He Building In There? and Endast, We, The Undersigned celebrated the release of their debut album Bleed The Constants to an enthusiastic and supportive crowd.

Today, nearly a month later, We, The Undersigned are currently blasting through a series of Canadian cities on their second cross-Canada tour and will return to the Maritimes on November 26th to appear alongside Protest the Hero and the other reigning kings of the Atlantic Canadian metal scene: Iron Giant, Children of Eve and Black Moor.

R.I.P. Alex Fountain

08/24/2009

This from the Halifax Pop Explosion Website:

alexfountain

“Halifax Pop Explosion is saddened and shocked by the death of Alex Fountain, our Showcase Coordinator, who died unexpectedly on Saturday night.  He was 20 years old.

Alex had worked at Halifax Pop Explosion as a summer student for both this and last summer.  A long time participant as both a fan and musician in the Halifax all ages scene, Alex was a big man with a good heart.

He was known as a tireless supporter of the local punk and all ages scenes.”

Read more here and here.

I did not know Alex personally but it is extremely sad to know that some one with so much talent and potential can vanish so suddenly. Rest in peace, Alex.

The Capital Bar Makes the Top 10

02/18/2009

captial-top-10

Late last month, CBC Radio 3 released the nominees for it’s “Best Live Music Club in Canada” competition. To be eligible for the contest, the club had to be indoor, cater to live music, have a capacity of less than 1000 and be operational at the opening of the contest. Among the 100 original nominees from across Canada was Fredericton’s own Capital Bar. Several weeks of daily voting has passed and it was announced today that the Capital has made it into the top 10 list. Voting continues until February 24th, and the winner will be announced one week from today on the 25th. You can vote on CBC Radio 3’s website here every day until the end of the contest.

The winning bar will win a live concert promoted by CBC Radio 3. Last year’s competition searching for the nation’s best record store resulted in Underdog Meow Records in Prince George, BC receiving an in-store performance by Chad VanGaalen so start voting!
